Divefolio privacy policy

Last updated: 26 October 2026

Divefolio is a dive logbook for iPhone. This page says which data the app uses, where it stays and what can leave the phone.

In short

What is stored on your iPhone

Your logbook (dives, sites, people, equipment, certifications, photos, notes) is stored in the app’s private space on the iPhone. The app sends it nowhere.

You stay in control of copies: the backup, the export (UDDF, CSV, PDF) and the sharing of a dive with a friend happen only when you start them, to the place you choose (Files, AirDrop, e-mail, an iCloud Drive folder if you turn that copy on…). Those destinations are governed by their own terms.

As with any app, the logbook is part of the iPhone backup made by iOS (iCloud or computer) if you turned it on in iOS settings. That backup is handled by Apple, not by Divefolio.

Permissions the app asks for

You can withdraw each permission in Settings › Divefolio. Wi-Fi sync with the computer is not available in version 1.0: the app does not use the local network.

Online services the app calls

The app calls only the services below. None of them receives a name, an e-mail address, a device identifier, a photo or any content of your logbook.

Online services the app calls
ServiceWhat is sentWhenSetting
OpenFreeMap
tiles.openfreemap.org
map background
The tiles of the displayed map area (so, roughly, that area). Each time the map shows with an online background. No setting: the map needs it. The “offline” background contacts nothing. Without a connection the app uses its built-in data.
OpenFreeMap
tiles.openfreemap.org
offline maps
The tiles of the region you choose to keep on the iPhone (area and zoom levels). Only when you start downloading a region. Your decision: nothing is downloaded without your action.
Open-Meteo
api.open-meteo.com
marine-api.open-meteo.com
weather and sea
A position rounded to 0.01° (about 1 km), the date and the names of the measurements requested. When the Dive day tab shows the day’s conditions for the chosen place (the iPhone’s position, the last check-in, the site of the last dive, or a place you pick). “Today’s conditions (Open-Meteo)”, off by default (Settings › Online data).
WoRMS
marinespecies.org
then GBIF
api.gbif.org
species names
The name you typed in the species search. GBIF is queried only if WoRMS finds nothing. When you tap “Search”. “Species (WoRMS, GBIF, Wikimedia)”, off by default.
Wikimedia Commons
commons.wikimedia.org
and Wikimedia’s image servers
illustrations
The scientific name of the species (otherwise its common name). The app then downloads the thumbnails offered. When you start “Search for illustrations”. Same setting as above, off by default.

About these exchanges:

What the publisher does not do

“Copy diagnostics”, on the dive computer page, creates a file (Bluetooth trace, masked serial number) that you can send to support yourself. The app never sends it.

This website

This site is made of static pages. It uses no cookie, no analytics tool, no font or image hosted elsewhere and no third-party service. Its host may keep the usual technical logs of a web server (IP address, date, page requested); the publisher does not use them.

Retention and deletion

Everything is kept on your iPhone as long as you keep the app. To erase everything: Me › Settings › Data › “Erase everything” (a backup is made first, then you type the word asked), or delete the app. Backups or exports you placed elsewhere (Files, iCloud Drive, e-mail) stay with you: delete them yourself.

Children

Divefolio collects no data about its users, children included.

Your rights

The publisher holds no data about you: there is nothing to access, correct or erase on the publisher’s side. Your data is on your iPhone, under your control.

Changes

If the app changes what it sends or to whom, this page will be updated before the release concerned, with a new date.
